“She never became famous or moved the stars from their course...
But, she always dreamed of being loved by a good man, and she always rode Fast Horses.”
Gypsy
I've been around horses my whole life, and find nothing more rewarding than being with them. I have literally been in the saddle since I was in diapers, and have loved every minute of it! I was an only child raised on a farm with horses. So my horses have always been some of my closest friends. It may not be the right thing to do, but I’ve never considered my horses as “livestock”. My horses are my “friends, and trusted companions”. I’m a firm believer that you have to have a bond with your horse, and trust each other completely if you expect that horse to give you 100% of itself.
My days of chasing the timers started out hauling with my dad to the local fun days, speed shows, 4-H shows, and anywhere else we found 3 cans in an arena. Those are the memories that I will always cherish. I didn’t have a professional trainer, or coach, to help me. I spent my time behind the alleys watching all the runs I could by other competitors, and trying to remember all I could about the winning runs of the day. I would then go home, and practice as much as I could to improve my runs as much as possible before the next show. I was raised to work hard, and earn what you want to accomplish.

As a child, I learned that hard work pays off. I also learned if you fall off, the only thing to do is get back on, and try again. Hard falls were something that came with horses, and crying about it wouldn’t make it hurt less. I had days that ended in bruises, and I had days that ended with a trip to the emergency room. Those hard falls just made me that much more determined to prove myself.
I had an advantage also. I always had honest, well-bred horses that did their best to take care of me. We had our trips and falls, but I had two horses that always did their best to look out for me during a run. They were honest, tuff as a grocery sack of 20 penny nails, had hearts the size of Texas, and always gave 100% to get the job done. There were days we didn't win every event, and days we didn't place at all. But, I could never say my horses let me down. When we loaded up to go home, I knew my horses had given me all they had to give that day.

Those horses are long gone now, but are not forgotten. Now they are grazing in pastures of endless green grass, and blaze their way down golden alleys. But, I will never forget all they did for me, or what I learned from them.

I'm 27 years old now, corky, fun loving, and I’m still playing with my horses as much as I possibly can. I'm now a trainer, teach clinics, give lessons, & a breeder. I am also a member of AQHA, NBHA, and IBRA. If I'm not at a barrel race or giving a barrel clinic somewhere on the weekends, you can find me in the barn, or trail riding with my little girl.
I currently have the privilege of having more awesome horses like the horses from my childhood. They are tuff, big hearted, and always give 110% when asked. I am truely blessed by having them with me.
I now train all of my own horses from start to finish. Years ago, I got tired of watching, and riding horses that jumped around behind the alley, hit barrels no matter what you did, and had bad pattern issues from not being trained correctly. Since I was a child I've wanted the reputation for training horses to be tuff, well focused, and competitive horses. I spend a lot of my time learning new techniques to get the most "natural speed", and better ways to take care of my horses to help them perform at their best. It takes alot of determination, money, and time, but well worth the work to own my horses.

My goal is to be the best I can be in the sport of Barrel Racing, and to help as many people as I can to enjoy it too. I understand that most barrel horses(or any horse with a problem) are simply doing their best to talk to us, and tell us when they have a problem. We just have to be smart enough to "listen", and be willing to take the time to fix it. Whether it be with a vet, chiropractor, massage theropist, or simply giving them something else to do.
I enjoy every minute I spend with my horses, the people, and the horses I have the privilege to work with. This life is an amazing ride! My hope is to enjoy it for many years to come.
